My work is fascinating, intriguing and endlessly stimulating. I embrace the challenge of ongoing learning, keeping pace with relentless law change, and gaining an understanding of complicated legal principles. My purpose is to make practical use of those principles and put together a solution that works.

I’m intrigued by the puzzles that I’m given to solve. Buying and selling a house is not always simple. There are dozens of components and many combinations of how the puzzle pieces could be put together.

My focus is Elder Law (which includes retirement matters, wills, powers of attorney), Commercial Law, and Trusts. But I have an over-arching interest in every type of legal work we do. My favourite role is to ponder the strategy and then to come up with an appropriate course of action. I then work with the rest of our team to complete the details and tactics.

Overtime we have honed our team to a specialised unit. Technology plays a role in this, but more so, we are all long-term members of this team. Knowing each other makes us very efficient. Our team is very much like a family. Our interrelationships are vital for our wellbeing and for our clients wellbeing. Another advantage of our team approach is that each of us has built up considerable contacts in every area of law we work in. Those relationships really speed up our work and benefit our clients.

I look forward to meeting you and helping you with your puzzle.

I joined the team in 2004 after finishing my law degree. Prior to that I had a varied career, from working as a chef to working in gold and diamond exploration in Outback West Australia.

I work in 4 areas which gives me a wide variety of interesting matters: Employment Law, Relationship Property, Property Law (residential and commercial property), and Commercial Contracts.

Every day is different.  I’m dealing with people with different perspectives and different interests.

My employment law work includes drafting employment agreements, and I also advise on disputes and compliance. For example, I might advise an employee on a claim for unjustified dismissal, or advise an employer on compliance with holiday pay and annual leave under the Holidays Act.

For my relationship property work, I advise on and prepare both contracting out agreements (sometimes called a “pre-nup”) and separation agreements.  I’m sure that you can appreciate that there are strong emotions at play in these high-stress situations and it’s my role to take out as much stress as I can for my clients, and help them make the hard decisions they need to make so both parties can move forward with the rest of their lives.

The remainder of my work includes conveyancing (residential and commercial property agreements), lease agreements, and commercial contracts. For example, I might draft a supply agreement one day and a confidentiality agreement the next.  Or, I might advise a client on a building contract one day and a franchise agreement the next.

For me, the most rewarding moments are simply when a client thanks me for helping them.

I’ve been part of the Annan Law team since 1995. I’m a qualified Legal Executive and I focus on conveyancing. Conveyancing is the legal side of buying and selling residential property including refinancing.

Every day I get people ringing in who are thinking of buying or selling properties. I only need to ask a few questions like “Do you need a mortgage?”, Is it a cross-lease?” and then I can give them a price over the phone. For first home buyers though it’s best to sit down for half an hour so I can explain their options before we even talk about pricing for our services.

My 3 favourite moments in this work are 1) The thrill of a sale or purchase going unconditional, yay! I love passing that news to my clients. 2) On the day of settlement when the funds move from one account to the other (in my career I’ve watched $3.1 billion change hands which I almost couldn’t believe when I did the calculation). 3) Thirdly, that moment when the keys are made available to the new owners - “Congratulations, you have your new home!”

I can understand why most people find buying and selling property some of the most stressful times in their lives. There is a lot at stake. It can be very emotional. I try to take this stress off our clients. I know this procedure off by heart, because I’ve done this over 5,400 times (another number I was surprised at!). I’m conscious of doing everything correctly.

I love living in Tauranga, I love living by the sea. I like my job and the Annan Law team is like a second family to me. They are always on hand to help, personally or professionally.

I've been part of the AnnanLaw team since 1996. My oh my, how time flies. I'm a qualified chartered accountant and I look after Family Trusts, Estates and Wills.

I take great pride in my Family Trust work. I derive enormous satisfaction from setting them up just so, so that they function now, and into the future, with protection built in from future relationships and creditors. I keep on top of changes to Trust law too, which often have very interesting implications for our clients (for example, residential care subsidies is a hot topic at the moment).

The purpose of my Estate work is to divide up a recently deceased persons assets according to their will. I work closely with the executor of the will and the beneficiaries. I really enjoy the detective work of tracking down assets and liabilities. You never know what hidden treasures you are going to uncover. I enjoy working with clients & building a close relationship during a difficult time in their lives. It makes me feel good that I can help them. My role is grief counselor at times, whilst I gently guide the widow/widower and children through their options, and manage their expectations. I also enjoy that moment when the estate is finished and the paperwork is done how it should be, and the beneficiaries walk away to resume their lives, satisfied with the outcome I've helped create.

I do enjoy working in a small team. We know each other very well. I come to work everyday to work with my friends and I make a positive difference in the lives of my clients. This is my home.

I’ve been supporting AnnanLaw/OmokoroaLaw by looking after the accounts since 2000 when I started on a part-time basis. Since 2008 I’ve also taken over the Practice Manager role which means I ensure that the rest of the team has the resources they need to serve our clients well. I really enjoy the accounting aspect of my work; it’s exact and rewarding.

A daily highlight for me is when our team comes together every morning and afternoon team time to share personal stories, developments and interests. We’ve been doing this forever, so I was quite surprised to recently discover that this is actually rare. It seems strange to me that every business doesn’t do something similar.

We are all friends here and I enjoy the relaxed atmosphere that comes with a small team. I’m proud of this team and the way we help people with legal advice at the times in their lives that they need it most.

I’ve been in the Annan Law team since 2008. I’m a qualified Legal Executive and I’m mainly involved with our commercial clients. My work includes leases, building contracts, sale and purchase of businesses, and trademarks. I am also involved with retirement village contracts, wills and enduring powers of attorney. Every document I work with is different and I do enjoy that kind of variety.

My favourite part of this work is the opportunity to get to know our clients. I’m always on the phone with them to clarify details, and organise meetings. I never get tired of them saying how grateful they are that we can help them by making the paperwork process easy for them. They can relax because they know they can trust us.

Yes, the team here at AnnanLaw is great, and as for Philip in particular, I couldn’t ask for a better boss to work for.

I’ve been a part of the Annan Law team since 2003. I’m a qualified Legal Executive.

My work revolves around the following:

1) I assist Amanda with her estate and trust matters.

2) I assist Krythia with her conveyancing matters.

3) I attend to the annual gifting programme for our clients who have trusts.

4) I attend to subdivisions for our clients.  Over the years we have attended to a range of different sized subdivisions. I prepare the legal documentation based on the requirements of the territorial authority and use the surveyors plans and documentation to craft our legal documentation. Once everything is ready to go I submit the documentation to Land Information New Zealand for registration for them to issue new titles.  I really enjoy this field of work as it has a lot of variety and complexity too.  Of course, it is always a relief to everyone involved when the titles are issued.

5) Assisting Philip and Geoffrey in commercial matters including lease matters and sale and purchase of businesses.

We have a great team here at AnnanLaw, and I enjoy being a part of it. I enjoy the variety of work I do, and I derive satisfaction from working through the process on every matter I contribute to, and getting to that completion point.

I am the newest adition to the AnnanLaw team, working as the Receptionist and Amanda's secretary since April 2016. I studied Legal studies in high school and had such a keen interest for it, starting this job couldn't have been any more perfect.

I take care of the general adminstrative side of things like answering the phone and greeting our lovely clients, payments, filing of deeds, reporting and making various orders for our office.

Being Amanda's secretary I am also doing dictation which helps me get more of an understanding of the things that we take care of in our office. I love learning and being at this job has really opened up so many opportunities for me. I have started online study for the Diploma in Legal Executive Studies and hope to further develop my position at this law firm.

I love working for AnnanLaw. Our team is so close and supportive of one another and that really reflects onto our clients.
